Product Design Gala 2017

For 20 years the Product Development Project course has brought students of engineering, design, and business together to tackle industry problems and develop state of the art solutions to real problems. During 8 months, around 150 students annually learn team work, effective communication, and the essentials of successful product and service development.

In the Gala you will have a chance to hear about the teams' accomplishments and process, as well as to get familiar with the people themselves together with their amazing prototypes. Among others, you’ll find:

  • Drones that communicate with and use KONE elevators to transport packages indoors.
  • A plant-growing IoT device controlled by a mobile game to make children interested in gardening, developed to explore new business opportunities for Fiskars.
  • A 3D body scanning platform that can be used to order perfect-fit clothes online, developed in collaboration with startup NOMO 3D.
  • A device to enable the safe use of smartphones while driving a car, developed as a students’ own project.

This year the teams are sponsored by such companies as ABB Marine, Caruna, Philips, Tulikivi, Konecranes, Lindström, NOKIA, and many more. In addition, the Aalto teams have been collaborating with students from universities in: Munich, New York, Philadelphia, Portugal, Stockholm, São Paulo, and Warsaw.

We would like to warmly welcome you to enjoy the public exhibition and get familiar with the projects as well as the amazing teams.
