Student Competition - Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 in Versailles, France

Take part in the next edition of Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 in Versailles, France

Created in 2002 by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Solar Decathlon is an international competition open to universities and institutions of higher education worldwide, giving them an opportunity to compete in meeting a challenge: “Design and build a solar house with the sun as only source of energy”.

Like a decathlon, the best solar house will be rewarded at the end of ten tests covering all issues related to the future houses. This competition is open to interdisciplinary university teams from around the world. Success, both for students and for teachers, is based on the complementarity of each team members and their ability to innovate in response to the triple challenge of energy, environmental and societal issues for house of the future.

During the competition, houses are set free to the public. Competing teams are be also evaluated on their ability to disseminate scientific, technical and industrial (STIC) they have produced.

Please note the following important dates for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 in France :

- Issue date of the request for proposal : October 10, 2012

- Deadline for receipt of technical questions : Monday, December 3, 2012

- Deadline for receipt of applications : December 10, 2012 – Midnight Paris time

- Publication of selected teams: December 21, 2012

All worldwide universities (college of architecture, engineering and design) are invited to submit proposals. All proposals will be reviewed, scored, and ranked. The application file is 20 pages max. It requires a thorough job of presenting the project and each team must indicate how the team intends to mobilize all  different disciplines (architecture, engineering, design, economics).
