For doctoral students and research staff of Aalto University the information on current scholarships and other research funding is on Aalto Inside (username & password required). The School of Arts, Design and Architecture also maintains a mailing list for doctoral students (doctoralprogramme). Please contact Planning Officer Taru Henriksson for joining the mailing list.

Academy of Finland

Two annual application deadline rounds: January and October. The call for applications is published one month before the call is opened. The Academy's international calls may also be open at other times.


The Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes) finances industrial R&D projects as well as projects in universities and research institutes.

European Researcher's Mobility Portal (EU)

Provides access to a selection of international, European, national, regional and sectoral web resources covering: research fellowships and grants, research job vacancies, practical information, research policies relevant to the career development of researchers in Europe. Also includes links to 31 national mobility portals.


The official entry point to Horizon2020 for EU Framework Programme for reserach and innovation.

European Research Council (ERC)

aims to support single research leaders ('Principal Investigators') heading a research team to conduct a frontier research project on the condition that he/she is engaged by a legally established host organisation. It offers two grants: ERC Starting Grant and ERC Advanced Grant.

Marie Sklodowska Curie actions

The objective of the MSCA is to support the career development and training of researchers – with a focus on innovation skills – in all scientific disciplines through worldwide and cross-sector mobility. For this, the MSCA provide grants at all stages of researchers' careers, from PhD candidates to highly experienced researchers, and encourage transnational, intersectoral and interdisciplinary mobility. The MSCA will become the main EU programme for doctoral training, funding 25 000 PhDs.

The Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture AVEK

AVEK (The Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture) was established in 1987 by the Finnish copyright organization Kopiosto.

AVEK uses its share of copyright remuneration to promote audiovisual culture: cinema, video and television. The majority of the funds that AVEK distributes originate from private copying levy, eg. from blank DVDs and digital video recorders.

AVEK aims to reinforce the production structure of the Finnish audiovisual industry by promoting the kind of long-term audiovisual program production that uses the available resources as effectively as possible. AVEK also promotes new talent in the field.

Arts Promotion Centre Finland

The Arts Promotion Centre Finland continues the activities of the Arts Council of Finland, which was founded in 1968. Its task is to promote the arts on both the national and international levels, as well as to promote aspects of culture that are not covered by any other official body. The Arts Promotion Centre Finland is an expert agency under the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Centre for Internatonal Mobility(CIMO)

Offers scholarships for international mobility to Finnish and foreign students and researchers. There are several scholarship programmes, each of which has its own eligibility criteria, application procedures, application deadline and application form.


Coordinates and provides funding for Nordic research.

Fulbright Center

Fulbright Center grant programs aim to increase mutual understanding between the professionals of Finland and the United States by means of educational and cultural exchange.

British Council in Finland

Funding for ARTS students and staff:

ARTS scholarship

All attending degree students and staff of the University of Arts, Design and Architecture are eligible to apply the ARTS scholarship. Scholarship is meant for conference participation, travel costs, study projects, studies and research abroad etc. There are three annual deadlines.
