Common studies courses

  1. If the student has taken an old Mechanical Engineering course that is on the course replacement list (pdf) for a common studies course, that old course can replace the new course in the common studies.
  2. If the student wishes to suggest an old master level Mechanical Engineering course other than one on the the course replacement list, it must replace a common studies course or fit to some topic group programme offers. This must be accepted by the teacher in charge of that particular common studies course or the professor in charge of the topic group as well as the Programme Director Prof. Sven Bossuyt. Approval by email is sufficient. Approval email should be delivered to the Planning Officer of the Programme (Contact) and student should save the email approval just in case.
  3. If the replacing course has been completed as part of the bachelor’s degree, the student must select another common studies course or advanced studies course as a substitute. This must be accepted by the teacher in charge of that particular common studies course or the professor in charge of the topic group as well as the Programme Director Prof. Sven Bossuyt. Approval by email is sufficient. Approval email should be delivered to the Planning Officer of the Programme and student should save the email approval just in case.
  4. Exchange studies are handled through the normal Credit transfer process.

Main principle is that students can only include major (Mechanical Engineering) studies in the common studies.

Advanced studies courses

  1. If the student has taken an old Mechanical Engineering course that is on the  course replacement list (pdf) for an advanced studies course, that old course can replace the new course in the advanced studies.
  2. Students can include old mechanical engineering courses in advanced studies if the professor of the topic group agrees that the courses in question fits to the topic group. Otherwise, old courses should be included in the elective studies. Approval by email is sufficient. Approval email should be delivered to the Planning Officer of the Programme and student should save the email approval just in case.
  3. If student wishes to include some other Aalto school courses to advanced studies, student needs to fill in a changing a study module form.
  4. Exchange studies are handled through the normal Credit transfer process.
