Russian skills and knowledge have a special significance in Finland. Russia is one of Finland’s most important trade partners and a country where some 400–500 Finnish companies conduct business, including in the forest, energy and chemical industry as well as the food, hotel and building sector (Stora Enso, UPM, Fortum, Neste, Nokian Tyres, Tikkurila, Fazer, Valio, SOK, YIT, etc.). Developing areas of potential cooperation include arctic areas, environmental protection, and bio-, nano- and clean technologies. Russian is also a good choice for those interested in international duties as experts with Russian skills are in demand by employers in and outside of Finland. Russian is commonly spoken also in many Eastern European countries, and it is one of the official languages of the UN.
