Looking for a summer job?

Bachelor’s and master’s students who have made good progress in their studies are offered summer jobs in the research groups of the CHEM departments. When recruitment decisions are made, preference is given to students who have completed a minimum of 55 credits in one academic year. Study, learn and make sure that you have an opportunity for a summer job at the school! The application period for summer 2019 jobs will open in March.

Renewal of degree certificate

All Aalto students who graduate after 1 January 2019 are given a renewed degree certificate. The certificate is updated for getting smoother preparation process and for more elegant appearance. The feedback from students has been taken into account in renewal. The change in content is that only the dean will sign the certificate. Visually there are more changes, e.g. the folder and the papers are new.

Aalto-Helsinki awarded gold medal in iGEM 2018

International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) is a big annual international competition focused on synthetic biology. More than 300 teams and nearly 6,000 students from universities around the world participated in the competition this year to innovate and tackle various issues from diseases to environmental pollution with the tools of synthetic biology.

Multidisciplinary student team from Aalto University and the University of Helsinki made it to the top category in iGEM Giant Jamboree 24–28 October in Boston. In the team were students from School of Chemical Engineering too.Currently, Aalto-Helsinki is recruiting students from all fields of their home universities for next year’s team to work on with a new project utilizing the tools of synthetic biology. AllWell? 2019 
The study well-being questionnaire AllWell? will be sent again to all Aalto 2nd year bachelor’s and 1st year master’s students in February 2019.

Give us 15 minutes of your time – you will get personal feedback. The well-being questionnaire will be emailed to the addresses of all 2nd year bachelor’s and 1st year master’s students. The questionnaire will be available online from 6 Feb. to 20 Feb. 2019. Your response will remain completely anonymous.  
Within one month, you will get personal feedback with ideas on
- how to handle stress in a better way
- how to improve your study skills
- how to stop procrastinating with difficult issues
- how feelings affect study performance
We will communicate the programme level results to the heads of the degree programmes. Development and improvement must be based on facts, and that is why your response is crucial!

Stanford Summer School

Aalto University students have an excellent opportunity to apply for the Stanford Summer Session International Honors Program (IHP) organized in California on June 22 - August 18, 2019. Aalto University, in conjunction with SSIHP, will provide a maximum of six full scholarships. LC-1320 Thesis Writing for Engineers (MSc) (1-3 cr)

Starting your Master’s thesis project? Need help with writing, managing references, and utilizing productive working methods? In the course LC-1320 Thesis Writing for Engineers (MSc) (1-3 cr), you will get to work with peers as well as get support from experts.

The course is offered in English in periods III-V. Space is limited (max 20 students). Group H07 is available only for students from CHEM, please, enroll to this group (registration through WebOodi).

Most of the exchange student places for the next academic year are open for applications during the main round for application in January 2019. Please note the new application period 10-31.1.2019. During this January main application round you can apply for exchange for autumn 2019, spring 2020 or academic year 2019-2020. Exchange destinations: Destination Database. Coffee and cake for good study progress

Students are encouraged to graduate on schedule. CHEM encourages its students e.g. by taking advantage of academic advising and personal discussions, and on the hand wants to thank students who have proceeded very well in their studies. On 25 October 2018, a coffee get-together was held for students completing 55 or more credits within the previous academic year. Tapani Vuorinen, Vice Dean in Learning and Teaching of the School of Chemical Engineering hosted the event.

Scholarship for a graduation in desired time

From 2018, CHEM offers scholarship to those students who complete their studies on time. The award is 500 €. Until today, the scholarship has been granted to 29 students, congratulations to all of them!

Aalto University School of Chemical Engineering grants every year scholarships for successful students

The scholarships are awarded by Alexander and Lucie Lampén Fund, Oiva Allan Pölkkynen Fund and Teknos-Winter Fund. This year the School of Chemical Engineering also wanted to reward talented international students with scholarships.

36 applications were submitted this year, and 32 scholarships with the value of 1000 or 2000 euros were granted in the summer 2018. Congratulations to all!

The next application time for scholarships is in May 2019.
