Tommi Junttila tietotekniikan vuoden opettaja 2019

Vanhempi yliopistolehtori Tommi Junttila on valittu tietotekniikan vuoden opettajaksi 2019. Erään opiskelijan sanoin “Interesting topics brought to you by a motivated teacher. The exercises are challenging but that's what they should be - to make you learn as much as possible. I could take this kind of course again anytime!”

Tietotekniikan vuoden opettaja on palkittu vuodesta 2007 alkaen. Tänä vuonna ehdotuksia tuli yhteensä 15, joissa ehdotettiin 9 eri opettajaa palkinnon saajaksi. Päätöksen palkinnon saajasta teki komitea, johon kuuluivat Prof. Tuomas Aura, Prof. Petri Vuorimaa, Prof. Antti Ylä-Jääski ja suunnittelija Elsa Kivi-Koskinen. Vuoden opettaja saa kunniakirjan sekä 1000€ palkkion.

Tommi Junttila elected Computer Science teacher of the year 2019

Senior University Lecturer Tommi Junttila was elected as the Computer Science teacher of the year 2019. Junttila’s contribution is visible in several core courses of the Computer Science Bachelor’s programme that he has taught and developed over the years. Currently, he teaches the course Data Structures and Algorithms. Typically, Junttila’s courses are large and challenging compulsory courses that every computer science student must take. However, he manages to pull them through so that the student satisfaction is far above the average and the course feedback is, without exceptions, excellent. The contents of the courses are carefully selected and prepared, and every detail of the implementation is top-notch. “Interesting topics brought to you by a motivated teacher. The exercises are challenging but that's what they should be - to make you learn as much as possible. I could take this kind of course again anytime!”, one student puts it.

The teacher of the year in computer science has been awarded since 2007. This year, a total of 15 proposals were received and 9 teachers were nominated for the award. The final decision on the winner was made by a board including the following members Prof. Tuomas Aura (BSc in computer science), Prof. Petri Vuorimaa (Master’s programme in CCIS), Prof. Antti Ylä-Jääski (Vice-head for teaching in the dept. of Computer Science) and Planning Officer Elsa Kivi-Koskinen (Learning Services). The teacher of the year receives a certificate of honour and a reward of 1000 €.
