The dean of the School of Electrical Engineering distributes incentive scholarships for good academic progress. The scholarship amount is €500. Since the 2016-2017 academic year, scholarships have been awarded to students of the Bachelor’s Programme in Electrical Engineering, and as of the 2018-2019 academic year, the scholarship award criteria have been reformed as such that they also apply to master’s degree students of the School of Electrical Engineering.

Scholarship award criteria:

The scholarship may be awarded to a student of the School of Electrical Engineering who meets the following criteria (1–3):

  1. The student has completed at least 60 cr during the academic year in question, of which at least 45 cr are included or are to be included, according to the student’s personal study plan (HOPS), in the student’s bachelor’s and/or master’s degree.
  2. The student must meet at least one of the following criteria (a–c):
    a) In the case of bachelor’s students, the student has not been enrolled for more than 7 academic terms as an attending student in the Bachelor's Programme in Electrical Engineering or in any previous equivalent programmes as counted from the end of the academic year in question.
    b) In the case of master’s degree students who have earned a Bachelor of Science (Technology) degree from Aalto University, the student has been enrolled as an attending student, first in a degree programme leading to a Bachelor of Science (Technology) degree and then in a master’s programme of the school for a combined time not exceeding 11 academic terms as counted from the end of the academic year in question.
    c) In the case of master’s students who have not earned a Bachelor of Science (Technology) at Aalto University, the student has not been enrolled as attending in a master’s programme of the School of Electrical Engineering for more than 5 academic terms as counted from the end of the academic year in question.
  3. The student has not paid tuition fee to Aalto University in the academic year in question.

Who is regarded a student of the School of Electrical Engineering?

To be considered a bachelor’s student at the School of Electrical Engineering, the student must have, on 31 July of the academic year in question, a valid right to study towards a Bachelor of Science (Technology) degree at the school or have earned a Bachelor of Science (Technology) degree from the school by the same date.

To be considered a master’s student at the School of Electrical Engineering, the student must have, on 31 July of the academic year in question, a valid right to study towards a Master of Science (Technology) degree at the school or have earned a Master of Science (Technology) degree from the school by the same date.

Studies completed during the academic year

For the purposes of the incentive scholarship, studies completed in one academic year are studies that have been, as indicated by the student’s transcript of records, completed and marked into the Aalto University student register during academic year in question, i.e. between 1 August and 31 July.

Studies completed in one academic year also include credits earned during that academic year in some other Finnish or foreign higher education institution, provided they have been transferred into the Aalto University student register by 31 August in the year the scholarship is applied for.

For compelling reasons, the credit transfer deadline may be extended at the student’s request, provided he or she has submitted the scholarship application by the application deadline and requested for the extension no later than 31 August.

Academic terms attended

All academic terms in which the student has been enrolled as attending in the degree programme as well as those in which the student has completed studies that have been included in his or her degree or personal study plan are counted towards the academic terms attended.

Further conditions

The student may be awarded a scholarship only once per academic year. Students awarded an equivalent incentive scholarship on the basis of their right to study towards a master’s degree in another Aalto University school of technology are not eligible for the incentive scholarship for the School of Electrical Engineering’s bachelor’s degree students.

Aalto University here refers not only to the present Aalto University organisation, but also its three founding universities.

Upon request, the scholarship recipients will be issued with a certificate of award.

Applying for the scholarship

The scholarship application period is in August. Students who appear to meet the eligibility criteria in the beginning of August will be sent a personal link to the application form to their Aalto email address.

Students who have completed studies that have not yet been entered into the student information system at the start of August due to, for instance, credit transfers, may ask for a personal link from the student services by sending an email to studies-elec@aalto.fi.
