Aalto University Open Access Fund discontinues in 2020. However, there are other options for open access publishing.
The Open Access Fund was established a few years ago as a pilot initiative to encourage gold open access publishing of research articles in high quality journals. This 120 000 € annual investment has been a part of the internal strategy funding (JSI, joint strategic initiatives) in Aalto’s current strategy period which is ending in 2020. To prepare for the new strategy 2021, many of the existing strategic initiatives are cut down in 2020, to ensure adequate funds for the new initiatives.
However, negotiations are ongoing with the international publishers on how the journal articles could be opened for everyone as a part of the contract. There has been progress and we already have new contracts with some publishers. Springer and SCOAP3 http://scoap3.org/ allow free open access publishing, and ACS, Emerald, and IGI Global allow free open access publishing within a quota. OA-agreements with Wiley and Taylor & Francis are expected to be announced in early 2020, and negotiations with RSC – Royal Society of Chemistry and Sage are under way.
Please check the open access discounts that Aalto community is currently entitled to: http://libguides.aalto.fi/openaccess/discounts
Besides, we have a new service, a manuscript service, to ensure all journal articles that can be opened (licenses and other terms permitting), are opened in Aalto University’s institutional repository, ACRIS, free of charge. Please check the details of the service: http://libguides.aalto.fi/openaccess.
