The Unite! alliance is one of the university networks of the European Universities -initiative funded by the European Commission, which are developing and building the European higher education of the future. The aim of the collaboration is to create a European university campus where students, staff and researchers can move seamlessly, both physically and virtually.

In Unite!, Aalto's partner universities are Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan, Sweden, Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, Institut polytechnique de Grenoble, France, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in Spain and Politecnico di Torino, Italy. The network is based on strong multi- and interdiscplinary co-operation with technical universities, but also extends transversally also across other areas of expertise and disciplines such as architecture, design and economics.

For students, Unite! offers new forms of student mobility, joint programs, online courses, summer schools, researcher seminars and collaborative courses, which may include short-term mobility periods. Courses and other activities are mainly offered for master's and doctoral students, but many events and project courses are also suitable for bachelor's students.

The Architecture Engineering pilot is established for Architecture and Engineering students within the Unite! network to be able to take courses of equivalent credit points in partner universities and broaden their network of exchange and choice of subjects. It will involve a series of lecturers/tutorials/seminars by the main partners of Aalto University and TU Darmstadt (Germany) followed by tutorials within existing coursework by the students. The courses will aim to provide students with knowledge into sustainable design practices utilising digital design and manufacturing workflows. This work will then be exhibited in an online format or examined within the course requirements for each subject and Unite! partners.

Topics:

Architecture, Engineering, Digital Design and Construction, Sustainability, Advanced Manufacturing, Energy Efficiency, Parametric Design, Algorithmic Design, Structural Design

For the autumn 2022 you can pick these courses:

  1. Computational Design Basics, 5 ECTS, April-July (TUDa)
