Theory meets practice at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Our school focuses on learning by means of practical assignments and projects.
In your Study Plan/Learning Agreement you can plan which courses you would like to take during your exchange. However, the final registration to courses takes place after you have arrived, and therefore you might have to change your study plan once you start your studies. You can search for courses from WebOodi where it is possible to browse the course descriptions without logging in. Some courses also use MyCourses as a course home page, where you can find course overviews, teaching dates and other course information. Please note, that most of our courses lectured in English are on Master level. On Bachelor level the number of courses in English is very limited.
Exchange students should primarily take courses from the Degree Programme or from the Department to which they have been accepted for their exchange. In addition to these courses, there are some other options like general Aalto courses (see below). You should turn to your study coordinator when planning which courses you should enroll to.

Exchange students who have been accepted to a degree programme in some of the Departments of Arts and Design can choose language courses and general art and theory courses offered by the Centre for General Studies - YoYo.
Exchange students should firstly consider courses of the programme they have been selected to, but taking courses from other degree programmes or departments is sometimes possible. However, this always needs to be discussed with the study coordinators of both programmes first.
Note that exchange students at Aalto ARTS can only take Aalto Cross-school courses are organized by one or more Aalto Schools and all students at the university regardless of their field of study can apply for them. Also exchange students may apply for Aalto courses., not from the other Schools of the Aalto University. There are however some courses to which all students of Aalto University can register. These
Finnish courses for exchange students and other language courses are organized by the Language Centre.
Exchange and guest students in the Department of Architecture will be informed in detail about all study options available during the Studio Info Sessions, where all available studio courses will be introduced, taking place at the beginning of each term at the department. Exchange students can participate 1 studio course / term.
Application for the studio course is possible after the studio presentations. In addition to this, students may select other courses in the field of Architecture. The Learning Agreement will be signed in the beginning of the term, when the course selection has been approved.
Please note that joint Master's Programme in Urban Studies and Planning (USP) only has limited space available for new incoming exchange students. The programme is able to take two (2) exchange students per term. No intake for the Spring term 2020.
Exchange students in Departments of Arts and Design can choose optional courses. Some courses are only available for the exchange students of the degree programme or the department, the rest are available for all students in the Departments of Art and Design.
